My Big Chop

August 2, 2013 - The Big Day!
There were no doubts in my mind that I was ready to cut off ALL of my relaxed ends. I did not want a gradual cut. My impatient nature screamed out: All or nothing! As my older sister was on island, I asked her to perform my Big Chop.

I thought I would have been nervous, but surprisingly, I was very calm. I was more anxious to see the final look. I would admit that I was not feeling it 100% at first. It was really dry. Thank God for YouTube! This was where most of my hair inspiration came from. There were a few YouTubers that mentioned having the same dryness after their Big Chop. This gave me hope that the dryness was temporary. I knew that my experience would not necessarily be the same as their experience, but it was still encouraging.

After a few weeks of consistent weekly cleansing and deep conditioning and daily moisturizing and sealing (oil), a newfound love developed for my twa (teeny weeny afro). My go-to hairstyles were wash and go's and finger coils.

Again, I experimented with numerous hair products to define my natural hair texture and also for hold. Although costly, it satisfied my curiosity, and I knew after a period of time which products complimented my hair type. What works for me, might not work for someone else....And vice versa. I will go through these hair products in detail in a following post.

All in all, I am glad I made the decision to Big Chop. I am thoroughly enjoying my natural hair.
